Honda Hotness Coming Soon
Concept Civic Sedan and Coupe Unleashed in Detroit
| Although 2011 has just begun, the Detroit Auto Show has brought us plenty of news and updates to keep everyone in anticipation for vehicles being released in 2012 and throughout this year. Honda’s poster child, the Civic, has resembled its current stature with minimal tweaks for a good six years already. Following tradition with the Civics previous generational remodelling, the facelift for the eighth-generation of the Civic is overdue. With sketches surfacing over the internet of a possible ninth-generation Civic a few months back, it was inevitable that Honda would be unveiling something to show their cult-like consumers of the Civic... The sketch was a decent depiction of the actual concept vehicle to boot. The vehicles both entice a sleek and rounder look than any previous generation, giving consumers a new take on the classic. The eighth-generation Civic was a big step for Honda, making a drastic change with its futuristic style that owners were not accustomed to at the time, and took a risk on going against the grain They quickly got positive feedback; giving Honda the opportunity and knowledge to play with the styling cues and allowing the research and development team to craft a vehicle that they would like to see on the road with impeccable style, reliability, fuel mileage and performance. |

The rear end of the sedan, especially the taillight assembly, resembles that of the newer Accord coupe. | The concept sedan looks as if it has taken some styling advice from its big brother, the Accord. The rear end, especially the taillight assembly, resembles that of the newer Accord coupe, where as the rest of the vehicle looks similar to the eighth-generation sedan, yet it still looks much sleeker. It seems as if the rounded bottom-end of the vehicle improves the total sex appeal in the concept model. The new designs give both, the sedan and coupe, steep windshield rakes, similar to the current models, sharp, edgy lines alongside the body, and a beefy stance that the civic has been growing into over the years. The Si coupe concept offers quite a few differences over current Si’s. It will now come standard with 19-inch alloy rims, a sharp centre exhaust that is surrounded with a rear diffuser, and a sleeker rear spoiler that flows with the shape of the body. |
The Civic will continue to have a wide model range, consisting of natural-gas variants, with the “Si” getting the sportiest engine offered, and a new take on the Civic Hybrid. The new Hybrid will feature a lithium-ion battery cell, which will be a first for any Honda Hybrid to date. The Eco-Assist system also finds its way into many models of the new civic, which is being adapted from the Civics’ sibling, CR-Z, giving the option for different driving dynamic modes which the operator of the vehicle can select with the push of a button. The new Civics are slated to begin arrival this coming spring. Just in time to go on some road trips to enjoy the beautiful weather in a vehicle which writes history and unfolds an amazing future with every generational gap.
